Our visit to Pondicherry Airport was one of the most exciting and memorable learning experiences I have ever had. I had always been curious about what happens behind the scenes at an airport, and this visit gave me the opportunity to see and learn about airport operations first-hand. It was much more than just a trip—it was an experience that helped me understand the importance of teamwork, communication, discipline, safety and responsibility in aviation.
When we arrived at the airport, the officials warmly welcomed us and took us to the passenger walkway area. They explained many interesting things to us, including the apron, runway, taxiway and runway markings. I had heard some of these words before, but seeing them in a real airport helped me understand what they actually meant. We also learnt about the rain jacket used by the ground control team. It was fascinating to discover how even small details are important for the smooth functioning of an airport.
Another interesting part of our visit was learning about the fire and rescue operations at the airport. The officials explained the different categories of fire and showed us the equipment used during emergencies. We also learnt about the capacity of the water used for firefighting and how far it can be sprayed. This made me realise how seriously airports take safety and how much preparation is required to handle an emergency.
The most exciting part of the entire visit for me was visiting the Air Traffic Control (ATC) room. I was amazed to learn how carefully the ATC team observes everything and communicates with pilots. We learnt that clear communication and constant alertness are extremely important when guiding aircraft. We were also fortunate to get a glimpse of how an aircraft lands. Watching the process made me understand that every landing and take-off involves the coordination of many people working together.
What I Took Away from the Visit
This visit changed the way I look at an airport. Earlier, I thought an airport was mainly a place where passengers board flights and aircraft take off and land. Now I understand that an airport is a complex system where many people work together with great responsibility and precision.
The visit also made me more curious about aviation and the different career opportunities available in this field. I feel that every learner should get an opportunity to visit a Tier-2 Airport because seeing real airport operations can teach us things that cannot always be learnt from textbooks. It can inspire us to ask questions, explore new interests and even discover careers that we may never have considered before.
I would definitely encourage my friends and other learners to take part in the SKY Explorers Programme. It is an excellent opportunity to learn, explore and experience the world of aviation closely.
My Heartfelt Thanks
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the officials of Twinjet Aviation for organising such a valuable and inspiring SKY Explorers Programme. A special thanks to Mr. Manoj, who coordinated the entire event so wonderfully and made sure that everything was organised smoothly.
I am also grateful to the entire Twinjet Aviation team for their care, guidance and warm hospitality throughout the visit. Their friendly approach made us feel comfortable and encouraged us to learn and ask questions.
This was not just an airport visit for me—it was an experience that opened my eyes to the exciting world of aviation and inspired me to dream bigger. I will always remember my SKY Explorers experience with great happiness and gratitude.
